Where are you from/where did you grow up?

I was born in Queens. The first 3 years of my life were spent in Brooklyn until my parents bought a house in Laurelton, Queens. When I was 23 I moved in with my then boyfriend to his family's home in East Flatbush. Then we moved to Clinton Hill. Eight years later, I moved in with my now husband in Crown Heights. Then we moved to the home I grew up in Laurelton and lived there for 17 years together. In 2020, we moved back to Crown Heights. Brooklyn feels more like home than any other place in NYC.

Why did you start your business?

Apparel is my first love, but accessories are my superpower! I started B.Brave by SK WiLBUR backpacks because I know what it feels like to be part of the population that is erased from school books. I want to use my skills in bag design to educate and connect kids, especially Black & Brown kids, to their history and awaken the greatness inside of them.

How does your work connect to Brooklyn?

Brooklyn is THEE cool, inclusive borough. Great people have emerged from Brooklyn like Biggie Smalls, Jay Z, Spike Lee, and Jean Michel Basquiat. B.Brave by SK WiLBUR backpacks are cool and inclusive and they celebrate the vitality of Brooklyn.
