Mr. Moda
Hallamoda - the Fashion Aka Mr. Moda is an Award-Winning Congressional American Multimedia Naif artist known for his interdisciplinary urban underground style. Born 1990 in Queens, NY of Jamaican/Haitian descent, Moda is a na"if (self-taught) painter whose practice spans fantastical murals, NFT's, live art installations, paintings on canvas, clothing, bags and shoes. His distinct style, inspired by comic books, Renaissance allegories and Pop culture has garnered him attention and notoriety firstly in the New York downtown art scene.
Mr. Moda's iconic hand painted clothing attracted the attention of wardrobe stylist Anaya Hayes who featured his pieces in the 2015 Art Basel event Swizz Beats X Revolt TV.
From 2018, Moda was an in-house artist/designer at Faith Connexion, a specialty boutique in New York City. Along with fellow artists/designers, Scooter La Forge, Carolina Sarria, Chris Habana and Patricia Fields; began the movement to bridge the gap between art and fashion and specifically art on fashion. This trend attracted the attention of musicians, influencers and superstars Chello, Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, Jungle God, OG Maco, J.I.D and Rich the Kid.
His inclusion in Miami's prestigious Art Basel in 2016 is where he first showcased his canvases along with other emerging New York Artists, Eddy Bogaert, Protect Your Heart (Uncut Art) Shei Phan and Lucky Rabbit. By 2019 a collaboration between Miami boutique, Odds Concept led to the artist's first major gallery sale.
From 2019-21 Moda positioned himself at the epicenter of African-American culture; Atlanta, GA. Partnering with Nasheem Wise, curator at The Lavista Gallery with mentorship from Daniel Perry, they debuted an exhibition titled "Our Story" with artist Bariq 'Miskeen' Cobbs. His next series 'How To: Be an Artist' lead to sales, commissions and further successful collaborations. 2019 Birthing Younity Studios a workshop and collective dedicated to collaborative efforts between artists.
During Art Basel Miami 2021, Moda lead workshops alongside Maria Bucellati with the Marangoni Fashion Institute where students worked alongside the artist and major fashion company, Faith Connexion. He also showcased physical NFT's at the Faena Hotel, along with crypto entrepreneurs, Brock Pierce and Calvin Chan. Later set designing and curating more events such as fashion Latin American Fashion Summit (LAFS) and assembling a custom wingset for Elana Rose the Los Nuestros Award Ceremony 2022 further connecting with the inner culture of Miami.
Since 2023, Mr. Moda has been making waves in the art scene. He joined the UNA-USA Queens Chapter as Co-Chairman of Outreach and relocated back to his beloved New York. His residency at Brooklyn Beauty Fashion Labo, a Japanese marketplace, has allowed him to continue creating beautiful fine art paintings and other merchandise.
With upcoming showcases in multiple exhibitions, such as Basin Gallery, Am Arthouse, Brooklyn Made, Queens Botanical Gardens, and Queens Hall of Science, Mr. Moda has also delved into fashion commissions, murals, and graphic design. His collaborations on music videos with renowned Reggae artist Jungle God (Shaggy's Protege) and Beniton the Menace have showcased his versatility and creativity.
Beyond his impressive artistic achievements, Mr. Moda has also dedicated his talent to making a difference. Through his partnership with Capra Care, a Charity Foundation located in Haiti, he has created meaningful artwork dedicated to raising awareness about cervical cancer to screen 25,000 women.
With these accomplishments under his belt, Mr. Moda's future looks even brighter. In the year 2024, he hopes to expand his creative pursuits and delve into the realms of film, music, and artist management. Exciting times lie ahead for Mr. Moda as he continues to leave his mark on the art world.
